Ashley & Adam's Maylon House Wedding

Ashley and Adam Beaty

Location: The Maylon House in Milton, West Virginia

I've known Ashley for a few years now and I was super thrilled when she asked me to be a part of her wedding. It always helps if I can get to know my clients before the wedding because each couple is completely different and we have to try to get inside their heads a bit to custom tailor the images to fit their personalities and styles. One of my main goals during the wedding day is to try to get everyone to relax in front of the camera so we can capture the images as candid and naturally as possible. Having a professional camera in front of your face can be a bit intimidating - especially considering the sheer number of photos captured will cell phones these days. To get everyone warmed up to the camera, we always love starting the day as early as possible so we can get to know all the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and families as much as possible. Now, we don't necessarily need to be at your house at 6:00a.m. when you first roll out of bed , but we feel it is important to start around the time that the bride will be getting her hair and makeup done. This usually gives us plenty of time to chat with the bride and groom to get the last minute details and then we usually start telling them stories about all of the weddings we have shot over the years to get them to relax and to help them enjoy the day as much as possible.

Fortunately for us, Ashley and Adam had absolutely no problems warming up to the camera! They both have awesome fun-loving personalities and they cranked the fun up to eleven. While we did have some serious moments which even made me tear up a bit, but this wedding was mostly about fun and family and this ended up as one of the most stress-free weddings I have ever had the pleasure to capture.

This was also a big stepping stone in my wedding photography career because I had just teamed up with Courtney Bell and this was our first wedding together. Good help is definitely hard to find and I am so lucky to be working with such a talented photographer! We definitely don't agree on the same approach to each part of the wedding and that just makes our coverage so much better. You know you've got the right partner when you look at the photos and say "Oh, I wish I had shot that!"

I'm proud of myself for finally writing another blog even though I'm about a year behind in posting these. I'm certainly not the best at writing either but I will do my best to post a blog on all of my past and future weddings. Enjoy!
